GunPla Lineup May 2026

The May 2026 GunPla lineup may look a little quieter on the regular retail side with only one standard release this month, the HGUC Messer M01-type, which also ties into the celebration of Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe. But once you look beyond retail releases, this month is absolutely packed. Premium Bandai is loaded with new exclusives and reissues, while Gundam Base and Gundam Side-F are also rolling out special limited kits. On top of that, the highly anticipated Bandai China Cross Contrast Colors kits are finally arriving this month as well.

HGUC 1/144 Messer M01-type

The Messer M01-type, commonly referred to as the M-type, is a mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe.

Although visually distinct, the Messer M-type was manufactured on a different factory line from the Messer F-type used by Hathaway Noa and his main fighting force. To clearly differentiate it, the unit carries a separate model number and designation. This divergence was intentional. Given the nature of anti-Earth Federation guerrilla operations, it was essential that the mobile suit’s manufacturer could not be easily identified.

As a result, the M-type features a significantly altered external appearance when compared to the F-type. Despite these changes, the internal frame and core specifications remain identical, ensuring compatibility and consistent performance across both variants.

Within the film, the Messer M-type was deployed as a replacement unit after Gawman lost his original F-type during the Davao air raid. One of the most visually striking details of Gawman’s replacement machine is its unfinished left shoulder, which was not painted in time for deployment. This leaves the base color of the part exposed, subtly reinforcing the urgency and improvisational nature of Mafty’s operations.

Rather than being a superior or downgraded version, the Messer M-type exists as a practical solution born from necessity. Its presence underscores the logistical challenges faced by Mafty and highlights the grounded, militaristic realism that defines the Hathaway series.

Bandai is releasing the RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0 in a special color scheme inspired by Hatsune Miku, and it will be available only through a Premium Bandai lottery at the Hobby Online Shop.

Hatsune Miku look is handled through molded color parts, giving the kit a clean finish right out of the box. This version also includes an original decal set made specifically for the collaboration, along with a special color beam saber effect part that adds a nice visual touch when posing the Gundam.

Underneath the new colors, it is still the well-received RG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0, so builders can expect the same sharp detail and layered Real Grade construction. The kit comes with its familiar loadout, including the Beam Rifle, Shield, Hyper Bazooka, and Beam Sabers, plus a full set of hand parts and Core Fighter landing gear.

The price is set at ¥4,290 tax included, with shipping planned for May 2026. Lottery applications open on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 12:00 PM and close on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 3:00 PM, with winners announced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Only one entry is allowed per person.

P-Bandai: RG 1/144 Miku Hatsune's Zaku II

The Hatsune Miku collaboration lineup is getting another chance, with the RG 1/144 MS-06S Zaku II [Hatsune Miku Ver.] returning as a rerelease through a Premium Bandai lottery at the Hobby Online Shop.

Just like its original run, this version features a distinctive Hatsune Miku inspired color scheme reproduced through molded parts rather than paint. The result is a clean, vibrant look straight out of the box, paired with an original set of realistic decals created specifically for this collaboration. It keeps the visual identity playful while still fitting naturally on the Real Grade Zaku frame.

The kit is based on the RG MS-06S Zaku II, known for its mechanical detail and solid proportions at 1/144 scale. It comes equipped with the classic Zaku arsenal, including the Zaku Machine Gun, Zaku Bazooka, and Heat Hawk.

As a Premium Bandai item, this kit will not be sold through regular model kit retailers. Premium Bandai has announced the HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos Adapt, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans!

This new GunPla celebrates the screening of the recompiled Urdr Hunt: Path of the Little Challenger and the special short Intermission Wedge.

Although Barbatos sustained severe damage during the Battle of Edmonton, it was repaired as much as possible by Tekkadan’s mechanics and continued to operate on the front lines as Barbatos Adapt. The large and small swords it wields were supplied by Teiwaz and were intended for the purpose of collecting combat data through Barbatos.

The kit will be released with full colored box art illustrated by the chief mecha animator, Hiroshi Arisawa.
