The METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (SIDE MS) nu Gundam is getting an upgrade with a new HWS Parts & Display Set scheduled for release in March 2027.

Priced at 12,100 yen, the optional set is designed specifically for the separately sold METAL ROBOT SPIRITS (SIDE MS) nu Gundam and adds the Heavy Weapon System Type armor and weapons to the mobile suit.

The HWS, or Heavy Weapon System, was developed during the Second Neo Zeon War as a proposal to enhance the nu Gundam's offensive and defensive capabilities if the conflict continued. The design draws inspiration from the Full-armor System and Weapon System concept, adding armor, additional weaponry, propellant capacity and thrusters across the mobile suit.

The leg armor incorporates additional thruster units to help offset the extra weight, while the shoulder-mounted missile launchers provide additional firepower. The HWS configuration also features the Hyper Mega Rifle and High Mega Shield, giving the nu Gundam a much heavier armament compared with its standard configuration.

For this METAL ROBOT SPIRITS release, the set includes the complete HWS parts, display parts and a joint parts set. The display components stand approximately 150mm tall and are designed to help support and showcase the upgraded configuration.

The HWS equipment is also tied to the nu Gundam's Psycho-Frame system, with the additional components designed to work alongside the mobile suit's enhanced control system. Various concepts for the HWS design included further psycommu integration, an I-Field generator in the chest armor and even a full internal Psycho-Frame.
