A new Mobile Suit Gundam SEED MSV project is officially returning, with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM MSV set to begin serialization in Monthly Hobby Japan.
The official Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM website announced the project on September 25, confirming that the series will begin with the December 2026 issue of Monthly Hobby Japan, which will be released in Japan on October 23, 2026.
The project serves as an official side story connected to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM and the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO. It will focus on new variations of Mobile Suits associated with these productions.
The return is significant for the SEED MSV series. The original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED MSV was serialized in Monthly Hobby Japan during 2003 and 2004. The project later expanded with SEED MSV Senki, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY MSV, and DESTINY MSV Senki. The new project is the first new official SEED MSV series in around 20 years.
New Mobile Suit Variations Planned
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM MSV will feature new Mobile Suit variations tied to the SEED FREEDOM era.
The project will include design illustrations by Kunio Okawara and other designers, technical settings by Shigeru Morita of Studio Nue, and physical model builds produced by Hobby Japan modelers.
An early look at the first Mobile Suit has already been published through Monthly Hobby Japan and Hobby Japan Web. The design has prompted discussion among fans because of similarities between its head and several mass-production Mobile Suits, while other parts of the design appear related to the Rising Freedom Gundam. However, the Mobile Suit's official name and specifications have not yet been announced.
TAMASHII NATIONS Developing GUNDAM FIGURE Products
The announcement also includes a separate merchandise development project.
The official announcement confirms that related products are being developed through TAMASHII NATIONS, BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy brand. These products are planned for sale at GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI, a Gundam 50th anniversary celebration event scheduled for January 9 through January 11, 2027, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.
At this stage, no specific figure has been revealed. The announcement does not identify a TAMASHII NATIONS product line, price, release date, or the Mobile Suit selected for the first figure. The poster only confirms that the GUNDAM FIGURE product project is currently in development.
TAMASHII NATIONS already has an active Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM lineup, including the METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Z'Gok (SEED FREEDOM Ver.), scheduled for December 2026.
The new MSV project will therefore expand the SEED FREEDOM lineup with additional Mobile Suit variations while also continuing the MSV format that has been part of the SEED franchise since the early 2000s.
More information on Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM MSV is expected as the Monthly Hobby Japan serialization begins on October 23, with further details on the TAMASHII NATIONS products also expected ahead of GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI.
