Gundam Factory Yokohama Closing Ceremony Marks Grand Tribute to Moving Gundam Legacy

On March 31st, fans of the iconic Gundam series were treated to a remarkable occasion at GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA, which celebrated the grand conclusion of the life-sized "moving Gundam," bringing fans from all over the world to enjoy its final act in person and via live stream.

From the start, the excitement was evident, with tickets for the day's events selling out rapidly, emphasizing the moving Gundam's final appearance. The evening concluded with a special event comprising thoughtful comments from the makers of "Gundam GLOBAL CHALLENGE" and media artist Yoichi Ochiai, who were joined by the respected Gundam Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino. The culmination was a captivating original drone art show using around 1,000 drones and a fireworks display, offering a visual feast for viewers.

Since its debut in 2020, the "Moving Gundam" has captivated fans, extending its stay twice before reaching its spectacular finale. The evening was a reflection on GFY's journey, from its ambitious beginnings to the unforgettable events it has sponsored. Directors and artists discussed their inspirations and the influence of the Gundam project, emphasizing the unique blend of engineering marvel and humanoid design that captivates the human imagination.

The conversations progressed to future goals, with hints of a desire to pursue projects that would allow humans to ride within a Gundam, prompting excitement and acclaim from the audience. Yoshiyuki Tomino, the general director of Mobile Suit Gundam, expressed deep thanks to the audience and the vital lessons learnt from the project, highlighting the confluence of realism, society, and animation.

The final experiment with the RX-78F00 Gundam was a symbolic send-off, expressing dreams for a future in which mobile suits promote happiness. The night sky was illuminated with an incredible show of drones and pyrotechnics, accompanied by legendary Gundam theme music, to celebrate the series' legacy.
