Bandai Hobby Puts a Pause on GunPla Reissue Announcements To Avoid Inconvenience

The official Bandai Hobby site has posted an announcement about their monthly GunPla reissue listings on March 31st 2022.

It states that due to the list they release monthly, the actual sales are being directed to resellers instead towards real consumers resulting an inconvenience to both fans and retailers worldwide.

Bandai Hobby apologizes about the inconvenience, but they will continue to be pro-active in providing better quality service to all fans in their upcoming operations.

In recent news, some Japanese hobby stores have temporarily closed their listings for Bandai Hobby products, specifically GunPla to stop resellers from buying bulk orders and resell it for a higher price.

This doesn't mean that Bandai will stop producing GunPla outside Japan, the retailers are still able to get their supplies from their local distributors like Bluefin now merged with Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America, Plamod in Canada, and many more to provide better distribution of their brands and collectibles around the world!

  1. Wow. This is huge news. I mean we all knew that scalpers were a huge problem in the hobby but it's very surprising to see Bandai try and do some thing about it.

If you're a reselling grifter and you're reading this, just know how much contempt many of us in the hobby have for you.

    1. The resellers are bad, yes, but Bandai sort of did this to themselves. The very existence of P-Bandai urges scalpers to buy out the entire pre-order stock and re-sell the kits for 3-5x markup. Once they had that infrastructure in place, it was trivially easy to start doing it to regular kits, too.

The scalpers are bad, yes, but P-Bandai is ultimately responsible.

    2. Couldn't agree more. This is a situation that Bandai itself created by making their own products scarce re: P-Bandai. If PB USA never launched, I probably would have quit the hobby years ago or at least would have drastically slowed buying new kits. I think the pandemic-caused rise in demand and the overall shortage of Gunpla and everything else also created the perfect conditions for scalpers.

    3. It's normies like you who ruined the hobby. We didn't have a problem with scalpers when gundam/gunpla was less mainstream in the US. You people are just as guilty as the scalpers.

    4. You can get stuffed with that "normie" bull, friendo. I'm almost interested in hearing if you actually have anything productive to contribute to this conversation but I'd actually rather not hear from you ever again. This normie is taking your edge lord bait.

  2. Bad sign for the future of the hobby. Gunpla is drying up in the US, and this may be the nail in its coffin.

  3. this isnt doing anything to deter resellers, and is only hurting actual consumers. what a mess overall.

  4. In the end, resellers can't be stopped since a kit can go for trading or in cash still by just posting in social media sites. Best to just adjust max qty per transaction.

    1. Max qty per transaction yes. But also max qty per login/user and max qty per credit card.
