  1. Well, between the RX-78 or the Unicorn being the first kit of the new MGEX line, it's no surprise that it was the Unicorn that would be chosen. Now hopefully Bandai managed to fix the articulation and the bad ankles on the original. But seeing as they're putting LEDs on it, I'm thinking it'll be a mini Perfect Grade. Hoping they do Kyshatriya next

  2. MGEX eh? Could this be the MG Unicorn 2.0? 1.5? I have a feeling it might just be the MG Unicorn with tweaked armor and LEDs, but- guess we'll find out soon enough

    1. I'm hoping for better articulation, that's all (which doesn't seem like the case, given that one photo showing the knee bend). Otherwise, super hyped!

    2. Its fully brand new. Proportionally its completely different and the original frame had 0 chance at fitting ribbon type LED strips.

    3. @Tinbutt

There's an image of the MGEX Unicorn on the Bandai Hobby Twitter which shows it has the same knee bend range as the RG Unicorn.

  3. Man, I was totally going to buy a new Unicorn to replace a damaged one. Now I am DEFINITELY going to do so. This looks so awesome!

  4. At that price, better off to get the PG version??

    1. The PG is a great kit, but combined with the lighting kit cost, batteries and the major space differences. I'm happy 1/100 kits are likely going to get lighting versions.

    2. Yeah, that's probably not a bad idea actually.

    3. The led system mark up the price significantly plus extra cage and shield. Remember the led on pg unicorn and exia cost almost the same as the kit itself. Just thank God it isn't P-Bandai

  5. think this is gana have worse articulation then the normal mg unicorn

    1. From all the pics and videos I've seen, it will actually have better articulation than the old MG Unicorns. The official MGEX Unicorn video presentation shows off how the flexible lighting strips allow it to flex its elbows by beyond 90 degrees without compromising the electronics, and a recent image of the kit on the Bandai Hobby Twitter shows the knee bend to have incredible range similar to the RG version. The elbows and knees were some of the weak articulation points in the previous MG's, and they do look to have been rectified in the MGEX version.

    1. It has the additional bases, three shields, and the lighting system. With discounts you can get the price down to about $200, which isn't terrible.

  7. Kinda wish they would have told us why this needs it's own grade... What makes Mgex distinct from Mg?

    1. Don't you see the LEDs, and it still transforms. You can mod any MG with led, but it takes more effort and little bit soldering skill, but this comes out of the box, you don't need any additional effort to light it up.

      Delete
    2. The LED and wiring work does not take an effort that costs $150+

    3. The Unicorn is an easy suit to take away & add things to get diff versions ie more money.

The real question is what does the EX consist of for the line as a whole. What is going separate a MGEX RX78 from any recent MG RX78? Is it something sustainable and applicable to most other suits?

    4. First we had the MG, which was quite bad.
Then we got a MG 2.0, which was quite bad.
Then the pg which was decent, but not that good.
Then we got an amazing RG.

This kit seems to be an improvement upon the RG design, with lights.

It's highly unlikely this line contains any kits that don't have a full light system.
So we might get an mgex exia.

    5. @unknown, well $150 about the same price as pg led unit, and i think it uses the same electronic. Plus its new frames, because old frame doesn't have space for wires. Sure putting led on your own won't cost that much, i put rgb led in my unicorn and only cost me about $10 and its bluetooth controlled. And yes it takes me a little bit of effort soldering the wires and making paths for those wires so it couldn't effect with articulation. So for a conveniences of just build it out of the box and putting batteries yes it cost $150+ plus you get cage and extra shield

    6. Edit: after watching the video bandai put put it seems we could in fact get extreme kits without LEDs.

Though exactly what that would be is still a question.
Perhaps they've finally found a way to make a MG Kshatriya with the extreme part being it's size?

  8. At this price, it is no longer a hobby. Rather buy a share of Apple stock. The regular MG does just fine for me.

  9. Boring and too expensive. Nothing special. An mg with LED? I can do better than this model.

    1. Of course >>you<< can and I won't contest that. But how about other people in the hobby without the skill, time and/or disposition to "do better than this model"?

It's not about you and only you, you know? I for one welcome the addition to the line, albeit I definitely won't be able to financially support it (much to my dismay).

    2. It is not his job to care about other people's feeling or skill, he is free to post his comment and not be questioned by you. Not sure who made you the savor for the masses. You work for Bandai?

    3. No you can't. This MGEX fixed all the problems that came from the original design like the articulation, engineering and proportions. This Unicorn finally matches the original illustration, something the stuby looking PG or the busy looking RG didn't do. The only thing can't excuse is the LED being forced in, marking up the price significantly

  10. Does this come assembled or do you have to put it together yourself.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's still a Model Kit; you have to assemble it. As for the LED system, it's likely a single unit.

  11. Unicorn mode definitely looks better now, but all those extra gimmicks are trash.

  12. Look close at the stands for the shields and you see cables.
The shields have LEDs as well.

  13. I love how many people are okay with another Unicorn, yet absolutely hated the Wing Zero Custom ver Ka.

    1. Unicorn has a better series, looks better, and is more fun to build / play with.

      Delete
    2. That's because the original MG for Wing Zero doesn't have problems and is still decent for it's time

  14. I'm calling it now: Full Armor parts expansion for MGEX Unicorn Ver.Ka as P-Bandai. Heck, they might even go Bande Dessinèe with it and give us the Armed Armor DEs it used there.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Looks pretty good, but seeing how they got the unicorn to have LED's and yet still pull off a good pose, I think the next MGEX is gonna be the 00 exia, because that is another model that could have an LED system in it.
