A major theatrical update has arrived for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, the long-awaited second chapter of the Hathaway movie trilogy.
The film is set to open on Friday, January 30, 2026, with a simultaneous IMAX® release across 61 IMAX® screens. Including standard formats, the movie will be screened at 426 theaters nationwide in Japan, making this one of the largest releases in the Hathaway series to date.
Alongside the screening announcement, a brand-new IMAX® key visual has been unveiled. Illustrated by Takayuki Masuo, the film’s CG director, the visual places the Xi Gundam front and center as it surges through the sky, delivering a sense of scale and motion tailored specifically for the IMAX® format. The composition emphasizes the raw presence of the mobile suit and the overwhelming atmosphere of aerial combat that defines Hathaway’s Noa’s world.
As the middle installment of the trilogy, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe carries the story into its next phase, escalating both the narrative stakes and visual ambition. With IMAX® presentation confirmed from day one, audiences will be able to experience the film’s dense visuals, massive mobile suit action, and cinematic scope exactly as intended on the biggest screens available.
Story
The year is U.C. 0105, twelve years after Char’s Rebellion. The anti-Earth Federation organization Mafty has emerged, striking back against what it sees as an oppressive ruling system through the targeted assassination of high-ranking officials. Hidden behind the name Mafty Navue Erin is Hathaway Noa, son of Bright Noa, a veteran of the One Year War who once fought alongside Amuro Ray.
Hathaway’s resolve is shaken when he encounters Gigi Andalusia, a mysterious young woman whose unsettling insight and inexplicable presence awaken memories of a painful past he has long tried to bury. Though confused and disturbed by her words, Hathaway presses forward, preparing for Mafty’s decisive operation: an air raid on the Adelaide Conference, an attack meant to strike at the heart of Federation power and bring closure to his own lingering regrets.
As Mafty advances its plans, the Federation responds. Kenneth Sleg, tasked with securing the Adelaide Conference, organizes a large-scale defensive operation while devising a strategy to dismantle Mafty once and for all. His mission takes an unexpected turn when Handley Yoxon of the Criminal Police Organization approaches him with a covert proposal that could change the course of the conflict.
With Hathaway and Kenneth moving toward an inevitable confrontation, Gigi also begins her journey, traveling to Hong Kong to fulfill a role known only to herself. Their paths, driven by conviction, duty, and unresolved history, continue to converge as the fate of the world quietly hangs in the balance.
