HG 1/144 RX-78-02 Gundam [Gundam THE ORIGIN VER.] - Release Info, Box art and Official Images

HG 1/144 RX-78-02 Gundam [Gundam THE ORIGIN VER.]
Release Date: March 2020
Price: 2,530 Yen

The most anticipated kit in the High Grade Gundam The Origin kit series is finally coming! The kit offers an entirely new mold and definition to the Gundam The Origin's RX-78-02, equipped with variety of weaponry and added gimmicks. This kit also offers wide range of articulation, just like the other kits in the HG Origin lineup.

Color and part separation for this kit is also planned to be better than the rest of its HG counterparts in the same GTO GunPla line. A special decal sticker seal will also be packed in the kit as always for this kit series.

From its chest to its equipment, the kit is provided with multiple conversion parts to make the RX-78-02 Gundam's variations and to represent all the design available for the Gundam itself. Each conversion parts can be removed and be replaced by another part without any problem.

The calf part is equipped with movable vernier part and it has an expandable cover for extra gimmick feature of the kit!

  1. I have been waiting for this for years since the first GUNDAM THE ORIGIN Anime OVA was released and when only MG was first released. AT LAST!!!

    1. Revives of the OYW suits arent gonna happen anymore, the Origin line will take care of those. The Guncannon was just an exception where the revive was released and not too long after the Origin ones were also released. Bandai has already started rolling out the GM variants and will eventually release a mass production Origin GM like how the Green Zaku (Type C) were released quite far into the Origin line.

    2. It will, bandai categorized oyw and origin unit as separate things, it just they don't think necessary for hguc gm now.

    3. The Origin GM's are definitely cool, especially the P-Bandai ones (of course). The Build Fighters GM's counterattack version is really nice lookin' as well. But I agree that a "revive" of the basic OYW GM would be a good thing too.

  3. "Planned to be better than the rest of its HG counterparts in the same GTO Gunpla line" I hope that means better forward-and-back ankle movement than the Heavy/Local Type/however many Gundam-based releases they've made already. They're basically all A+'s in articulation besides the feet, so I really hope this one has improved that joint.

    1. The RX-78 uses the new GM "frame" parts. All the Origin GMs share the same basic frame along with the Heavy Gundam and thus you can certainly say that the RX-78 will surely have the exact same articulation and stability. The Local types have a completely different frame so no Bandai will likely never use that base design anymore except for Local type variations.

    2. This one completely used a whole new different mold.

  4. This is long overdue, Bandai. But then again, better late than never.

  6. Finally, one of my most wanted wishlist becomes real. However, based on the photo, I am afraid the ankle armor still uses the old joint. Still going to buy it though.

    1. It uses the frame of the Origin GMs where the connection point is at the balljoint at the middle of the ankle armor

  7. I'm hoping we'll get the rest of the White Base team from the Origin. The Guncannon (with both hand options), Guntank, Sleggar's GM team, and the custom GM that Sayla uses in A Boa Qu.

    I can dream~

    1. Even with the announcement of the Origin Gundam, the revive Gundam's still a good kit.

    2. Hguc revive and origin ver. have different aesthetic so it's okay to have them both.

    1. My question exactly. I'd also be happy with a green Zaku II in the Origin style as an MG kit or even an Origin Zaku I in MG. Make it happen Bandai!

    1. Technically we already got the Guntank. In the GUNDAM THE ORIGIN, the White Base uses the exact same old Guntank that appeared in the OVA Episode 1.

  12. Death Usagi, no it's not. They share the same base but the torso and arms are different.

    1. Wouldn't that be a pain to produce in HG 1/144 scale, for those fine details in the verniers added all over?

  17. I think I might pick this up alongside the BEYOND GLOBAL ver. I'm feeling more motivated to do so after very luckily coming across the G40 the other day, and I think it'd be fun to build multiple versions of the First Gundam and have them all pose together.
