Ippei Gyoubu Reveals a new nu Gundam Design

Mechanical designer, Ippei Gyoubu reveals a newly designed nu Gundam in his official twitter account. This nu Gundam also debut in the Gundam ACE magazine December 2019 issue that was first released on October 26, 2019, which also features the Mobile Suit Moon Gundam vol. 4.

The "nu Gundam Invented by Amuro Ray" shares the same framing used by the Gundam Narrative. The design of this nu Gundam points to symmetrical path compare to its original asymmetrical design.

Its first images shows 2 plan designs that features two different color schemes. Plan B is in black, white, and gray colors and has an Amuro Ray logo on its left shoulder armor, while the Plan A has almost the similar color scheme to the nu Gundam itself.

  1. No. Is this a retcon? Why are they trying to reinvent the wheel? Next you'll hear the original Nu was actually the Plan C version? C'mon!

    1. More like this is initial design that Amuro proposed before the finished anaheim version. Interesting enough when you can see some of zeta's element here, especially arms and thighs. I think plan a and b only refer to coloring, not armaments.

    2. I wouldn't fret. We did have the RX-78-02 Gundam from Gundam The Origin, after all, and we also have the RX-78-2 Gundam (Industrial Design Ver.) for G40. Plus, the Nu Gundam has already been redesigned - the original version for the Hi-Streamer novel is VASTLY different to the iconic design seen in Char's Counterattack.

    3. It's not a retcon, it's a re-design to fit with the NarraTive, of both the story and the Gundam. It's not the first time this sort of thing has happened, for instance, Katoki's re-design of the Sazabi were used for the Twilight Axis manga. Also,I know the Nu Gundam design was everyone favorite, but what the hell are you on about ? "Next you'll hear the original Nu was actually the Plan C version", that doesnt make sense, this is the plan for the re-design, they're going to choose either 1 of them.

    4. A "re-design to fit with the NarraTive, of both the story and the Gundam." Sounds a lot like the definition of a retcon to me.

    5. No no no, as I said before Nu Gundam won't be retconned or redesigned to be this. This is design that Amuro proposed to Anaheim, which will be Mu (or Narrative) as testbed suit. In the end it'll be Nu as we know as result from Amuro and Anaheim collaboration. And plan C for this Nu won't happen because:
      1. Psycho frame's tech are given secretly by Char. Technician and Chan that worked on this project didn't even know what is psycho frame before.
      2. Narrative plan C only happen because Michelle can retrieve it from Martha which is one of Michelle plan to capture Phenex.

    6. The difference is that this won't make the current Nu design "non-canon". Just like how the re-design of the RX-78-2 in Gundam Origin doesn't really considered a retcon, since it is its own seperate thing.

  2. Torso and Shoulder unit looks small and out of proportion

  3. I'm actually sort of tired with Gyobu's design aesthetic.

Even here it just makes the Nu look sort of...petulant and pouty, compared to the relaxed, heroic, classic Nu lineart and design. Its shoulders are so hunched, it reminds me of a Looney Tunes character when they're angry.

    1. It's almost like it's not the final design of the Nu...

    2. That doesn't mean it has to look borderline silly. Look at the Sinanju Stein and Sinanju. Or the (retcon) evolution of the Gundam Mk-V to Doven Wolf/Silver Bullet.

    3. Well to me the old 80s Nu gundam design looks bloated and outdated. This is a far better and more realistic design. After all Gundams are the REAL ROBOT category so it makes sense to update the old, tired designs.

  4. I don't like his version of Nu. It doesn't feel intimidating for me, compared to the original.

  5. A beam saber in each wrist and both sides of the backpack. I actually like this setup. The alternate color scheme reminds me of the Silver Bullet.

    1. If my hunch is right those would be 2 cannons, either machine guns, gatling guns like how hi nu have forearm mounted autocannon. or maybe launchers like the re gz and zeta?

  6. Unpopular opinion, but it looks beautiful. Plan A looks so cute.

  7. Man, why can't Bandai and Sunrise just leave finished things alone? This design would've been fine if it was something completely new, but as a re-design of the Nu Gundam, it's pretty lame. There's nothing that really makes this design stand out, and between the current designs of the Nu Gundam and this, the current Nu Gundam is way better.

    1. Id believe it if they announce it as a build series gunpla. Looks something like if theres a Nu gundam Vrabe.

    2. I mean, it won't retcon the original design for marketing; they know this damn thing sells and the fact that the Real Grade RX-93 exists is proof of that. I'd only worry if they actually say otherwise, but since it appears to tie into Moon Gundam then I'm not exactly that worried.

  8. That big head though, looks like nu gundam had the Core Gundam Syndrome.

  9. Design is fine but the head and face looks cartoony, like it lacks the fierce look the nu gundam has

  10. wait a minute, where would the funnel be if both slot on the backpack is used for the beam saber? -Ground Type Nu?

  11. The only issue I have, personally, is that the head is too large. Without being able to see this thing from multiple angles, it's hard to say whether or not I'd like it more or less...

  12. Nope... Nu Gundam ver. KA still the best in my opinion

  13. Correct opinion. This is a better design that fits in line with the real robot evolution into the modern age. Better than the old 80s style.

    1. Much correct opinion: Hajime Katoki, Naoki, and Kanetake Ebikawa does it better. Fool, Ippei should just get hired by another company and design super robots.

    2. Much correct opinion: Katoki, Naoki, heck even Ebikawa and his army of super robots can do much better at designing a real robot. Katoki is already given that he can do it no problem, Naoki can do the same, but at the cost of the MS having high heels, Ebikawa...

...well his Full Metal Panic and Aldnoah Zero designs should speak for itself.
