The wait is finally over. The Gundam Ground Type is officially joining the Real Grade lineup.
What makes this release especially interesting is that the idea of an RG Gundam Ground Type has been floating around for years. A concept image teasing the mobile suit as a possible addition to the Real Grade series appeared during GunPla Expo World Tour 2012 Japan. Fourteen years later, the Ground Type is finally getting its proper announcement.
The timing also connects nicely with the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, which first arrived in 1996.
The RG kit recreates the rugged RX-79[G] with its distinct armor, chest-mounted weapons, shield, and massive 180mm cannon. Bandai is also giving us a dedicated ground stand that connects with the shield, allowing the Gundam Ground Type to recreate its famous kneeling firing pose.
For fans who have been waiting since that original tease, this one has been a very long time coming.
