During the recent Gundam Conference SPRING 2026, director Jim Mickle personally shared a new production update with fans, confirming that the highly anticipated project is now officially in production.

Mickle hinted that the team has been building and designing massive sets featuring some of the most iconic ships and mobile suits in Gundam history, while also introducing completely new additions created specifically for the film. Even from the brief update, it was clear the production is aiming to capture the scale and atmosphere fans have imagined for years.

Mickle also emphasized that while Gundam is a story filled with conflict and war, at its core it is still a deeply human story. He also expressed his excitement to finally show fans what the team has been working on.

The film stars Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo in leading roles, alongside a growing cast that includes Michael Mando, Shioli Kutsuna, Jason Isaacs, and several other major names attached to the project.

Production for the movie is currently taking place in Queensland, including locations across the Gold Coast and Toowoomba areas in Australia. Large-scale filming has reportedly been taking place at Village Roadshow Studios along with other massive outdoor set locations designed to bring Gundam’s futuristic environments to life.

This latest update finally makes the live-action Gundam movie feel real after years of waiting, rumors, and development changes.
