Gundam Base Tokyo Live Compares Re-GZ Custom and Re-GZ MG Kits

P-Bandai channel and Gundam Base Tokyo live broadcast features a comparison review of the Master Grade Re-GZ with its upgraded Re-GZ Custom kit which was announced recently to be released in the Premium Bandai line in May 2019 for 5,940 Yen.

The kit's inner framing was updated to give the GunPla a better articulation and durability. Upgraded parts from head, shoulders, legs, skirt armors, and backpack were updated to today's GunPla technology to adapt the quality of recently released GunPla since GunPla evolution project.

Screen shots were taken from the recorded live video from the Gundam Base Tokyo official Youtube channel.

The video also covers MG 1/100 Shenlong Gundam (Liaoya Unit) and HG 1/144 Zaku Cannon (Gundam THE ORIGIN MSD).

  1. Oh good, they made the comparison for me. Also unf, that custom looks more like a refined Zeta than the standard refined Zeta

  2. I just don't understand why all the kits are now being made as P-bandai. It is so obvious most people won't get the old MG Re-Gz when there is a new one available. And while it is not available to other people outside of Japan, how do you expect people to buy them? Why making the kits hard to get for people outside of Japan? Bandai doesn't seem to appreciate customers that are outside of Japan. If you want your kits to sell, make them available for everyone. If not, well, you can keep the models for yourself to play.

    1. There are about 5-6 new P-Bandai kits each month. That's just how it is. It's clearly been very successful for Bandai's bottom line and hence why they've doubled down on online webshop exclusives.

Customers outside Japan (and other regions where P-Bandai kits are available) just don't have the numbers to support distribution. Maybe that'll change in the future. Maybe not. Only Bandai has the actual numbers to determine the correct business call.

    2. All i know so far, if the kits are P-bandai, their price are increased. And even those kit are suck, there are no products remain in stock because the kits are produced equal as the orders. For short, it is a business.

    3. Also because a lot of the P-Bandai stuff is either a testbed or from obscure sources (MSV collections, Japan-only series, or video games)

  3. i don't understand why it's hard to get p-bandai stuff outside of japan, i don't have that problem. people make it sound like it's some region-locked exclusive that the rest of the world is not allowed to obtain.

i'm glad to see the comparison, if anyone paid attention it, it easily shuts down any comments regarding it 1:1 rehashing the old MG RE-GZ molds when it clearly doesn't, much of it may appear very similar but upon close inspection you can tell there are slight tweaks to the silhouette of similar appearing sections.

    1. Price + shipping
Shipping = might cost the same as the kit itself
Sometimes not available bc local supplier (some countries don't even have it) choose to not to take it
If you had never experienced it then you won't understand anw

    2. Indeed. Pretty much the only caveat is that you can't walk into a hobby shop and stumble into one. Ebay, Amazon, untold numbers of other sites

    3. I think we complain about it more because of the cost than anything. While the price on P-Bandai kits is usually within the pricing scheme of normal releases, once the P-Bandai kits go through the middle-man and multiple shipping charges, it's not unusual for those of us in areas not served by P-Bandai to have the costs at LEAST doubled, and it's not unusual to see them tripled. Add to that the sheer amount of kits having been released as P-Bandai vs normal release, I'm sure you can see our frustration.

    4. It's not that it's hard, it's that we have to pay double the asking price for the same product for seemingly no reason. Because someone once set that as the standard and it sold. That's what's frustrating to people. That and the Wondwart was an entirely new kit. P-Bandai was supposed to be alterate or extended versions of existing kits, not 80-90% new hotness.

    5. While I agree its not that difficult to find these kits, it IS difficult to find them for a reasonable price.

P-Bandai HG kits typically cost between 40-50 USD, and MGs are often near $100. It can often be hard to justify that price tag, especially if you're on the lower income end of the spectrum.

It's not no reason. There are, among other costs, both labor and rental costs that need to be covered.
