First seen in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, the MS-06RD-4 was an experimental mobile suit developed under a top-secret Principality of Zeon military project involving Zeonic and Zimmad. Its goal was to explore the modification of the Zaku for space combat while testing technology that would eventually be used on the Rick Dom.

The unusual mobile suit combines the upper body of an MS-06R series Zaku II with the lower body that would lead to the MS-09R Rick Dom. Its leg units were equipped with thermonuclear rocket engines, serving as a test bed for the propulsion system later used by the Rick Dom. The engineering and ease of maintenance of these leg units were also considered superior to those of the MS-06R-1A Zaku II High Mobility Type.

For the HG kit, the distinctive purple, blue, and black color scheme is reproduced with colored molding. New parts recreate the characteristic head, chest, shoulder armor, waist, backpack, legs, and feet, with detailed sculpting throughout.

The kit includes a newly sculpted MS machine gun with a design distinct from the standard Zaku II weapon, along with the Heat Hawk. New waist joint parts allow the Heat Hawk to be stored on the mobile suit, while multiple interchangeable hands provide different posing options.

Original marking decals are also included to complete the kit's distinctive appearance.
