Bandai is giving the Gundam Mk-II one of its most ambitious releases yet.

The RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (AEUG specification) is joining the premium METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI series, turning the iconic Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam mobile suit into a massive mechanical display piece built from more than 2,500 individual parts.

Standing approximately 310mm tall, this high-end release combines ABS, PVC, and die-cast metal with an incredible number of moving mechanisms, deployable armor sections, lighting gimmicks, weapons, and display options.

At its core, the KAITAI-SHOU-KI series explores the mechanical structure beneath a mobile suit's armor. For the Gundam Mk-II, Bandai has focused heavily on its famous Movable Frame, one of the design's defining features.

The figure can enter a Full Maintenance Mode, with armor sections opening across the body to expose the internal mechanisms. The chest lifts to reveal the spherical cockpit, while the lower legs feature an extending internal frame. Even the thruster port frames move along with the leg mechanisms.

Bandai has also created an original High-Mobility Combat Mode specifically for this release. The backpack thrusters can be rearranged, while armor panels across the Gundam Mk-II open to simulate heat dissipation during combat.

The included display base turns the release into something that looks straight out of a maintenance hangar.

The Gundam Mk-II can be attached to a central support column, with articulated work arms positioned around the mobile suit to recreate a maintenance scene. Lighting gimmicks are built into both the Gundam Mk-II and the base, while included mini-figures help show just how large this 310mm release really is.

Collectors can also use the included catapult-inspired display parts to recreate launch scenes.

The set comes with a full selection of equipment, including the Beam Rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Vulcan Pod System, Shield, spare E-packs, E-pack joint parts, spare bazooka cartridge, and various beam effect parts.

The Beam Rifle also includes exclusive gimmicks for the KAITAI-SHOU-KI release, allowing a launcher to be attached or the weapon to be displayed in a short-barreled configuration.

There are also several details referencing the Gundam Mk-II's story in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Parts hidden beneath the armor retain the mobile suit's original dark blue Titans colors, while the shield features a painted-over Titans emblem, recalling its journey from the Titans to the AEUG.

The arms and shield base also share a common connection system, allowing the shield to be mounted directly onto the chest in configurations seen in the anime.

The METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (AEUG specification) is priced at 137,500 yen. Pre-orders open on August 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. JST, with release scheduled for January 2027.

With over 2,500 parts, deployable armor, a fully detailed internal frame, lighting effects, multiple configurations, a maintenance display, and a huge 310mm body, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest Gundam Mk-II releases Bandai has ever produced.
