The Gundam Base Limited
Release Date: February 14, 2026
Price: 5,280 yen

The Gundam Base is releasing a new limited item for fans around the world: the MG 1/100 GM Sniper Custom in Mobile Suit Z Gundam‑inspired colors. This exclusive kit mixes classic UC style with the sharp detailing of the Master Grade line. The box uses a nostalgic package design, and the suit keeps its original look while gaining the cleaner proportions expected from an MG. The head visor opens and closes, letting you switch between sniping and close‑combat mode. With strong articulation in the arms, chest, and torso, the kit can easily recreate its signature sniping pose. The R4 Type Beam Rifle includes a folding mechanism, and the right arm features a folding handgun for extra display options.

In the Universal Century, the GM Sniper Custom was created because many Federation ace pilots were unhappy with the standard RGM‑79 GM. Their push for a better machine led to two upgraded variants: the GM Light Armor and the GM Sniper Custom. Despite the name, the Sniper Custom wasn’t limited to long‑range combat. It was designed as a flexible, general‑purpose mobile suit that could handle sniping, mid‑range support, and close‑quarters fighting.

To reach this level of performance, the suit received major upgrades. Its backpack thrusters were powerful enough to rival the RX‑77‑2 Guncannon, and extra thrusters were added to the legs for better mobility. The waist armor carried high‑output cooling units to keep the suit stable under heavy strain. The head featured an armored visor with its own image sensor and enhancer. While the visor was meant to protect the cameras in close combat, it delivered impressive precision when paired with the R‑4 Beam Rifle.

With all these improvements, the GM Sniper Custom reached performance levels close to the RX‑78‑2 Gundam. It proved that even mass‑production suits could become high‑spec machines with the right tuning. However, the upgrades were expensive, and fewer than fifty units were ever produced. The design later became the base for two more specialized machines: the GM Intercept Custom and the GM Guard Custom.
