STORY
U.C. 0085 > Side 6, Izuma Colony

When an “Ordinary” High School Girl Encounters War

In U.C. 0085, five years after the end of the One Year War, Amate Yuzuriha, a high school student living in the Izuma Colony on Side 6, leads a quiet and uneventful life. That changes when she meets a girl named Nyaan, who is engaged in a peculiar part-time job. As a "courier," Nyaan is transporting a device designed to enable mobile suit combat. Following her to deliver the device to its destination—a junk shop named Kaneban—Amate is startled to encounter a towering Zaku. Outside the shop, two more mobile suits suddenly appear.

The two suits—one a striking red Gundam and the other the GQuuuuuuX, a cutting-edge model developed by the Principality of Zeon—have arrived with clear intent. Zeon officer Challia Bull has sent the GQuuuuuuX to reclaim the red Gundam, a legendary machine that has been missing for years. However, the GQuuuuuuX’s pilot, Xavier, fails to activate the advanced Omega Psycommu system in time, causing the mission to unravel as local military police intervene.

As the chaos unfolds, Amate becomes enraged by the military police Zaku's reckless disregard for the refugee zone, which it damages without care. Driven by anger, she impulsively commandeers Kaneban’s Zaku and later discovers the GQuuuuuuX in an abandoned section of the colony's bulkhead mine. Though inexperienced, Amate powers up the GQuuuuuuX and takes on the military police Zaku in open space.

In the presence of the red Gundam and while experiencing a strange phenomenon she calls the "sparkle," Amate awakens to newfound abilities. With these, she triumphs over the military police Zaku, marking the beginning of her extraordinary journey.

GQuuuuuuX
Pilots: Xavier Olivette, Amate Yuzuriha (Machu)

This advanced prototype mobile suit, specifically designed for Newtypes, defies convention by integrating the highly prohibited psycommu technology, outlawed following the One Year War. Taking things even further, it incorporates a revolutionary system known as the Omega Psycommu. When activated, the head-mounted blade antenna, which also functions as a restraint mechanism, detaches, allowing a brainwave-control interface to deploy within the cockpit. At this stage, all movements are controlled entirely through psycommu-linked thought commands.

Its standard weaponry includes a beam saber and beam rifle, complemented by a shield equipped with a one-field generator. Additionally, the suit boasts a Core Fighter system, which can serve as a backpack or operate independently as a standalone flight unit. This cutting-edge design pushes the boundaries of mobile suit technology and Newtype capabilities.

RX-78-02
WHITE GUNDAM
Pilot: Char Aznable

As part of the Earth Federation Army's RX program, this versatile mobile suit was designed to serve as a medium-range artillery unit. It was developed to work in tandem with cannon-equipped mobile suits and artillery support tanks. A notable feature of its design is the "Core Block System," which allows the cockpit to operate independently as a data module.

Standard armaments include head-mounted Vulcans and a beam saber. Additionally, it was equipped with a beam rifle—a cutting-edge weapon that the Principality of Zeon had yet to make operational at the time.

This mobile suit was considered one of the Federation's trump cards during its deployment at Side 7. However, it was ultimately captured by Char Aznable of the Principality of Zeon, marking a significant loss for the Federation forces.

RED GUNDAM
Pilot: Shuji Ito

This mysterious red mobile suit reappeared in U.C. 0085, widely believed to be the RX-78-02 Gundam, originally designed by the Earth Federation during the One Year War. Seized by Zeon during its final testing, the suit was heavily modified and repainted in red for Char Aznable’s personal use.

Among its enhancements were the Alpha-type psycommu system and Bits, advanced wireless weapons linked to psycommu technology. Both Char and the suit vanished during the Zeknova incident at the Second Battle of Solomon, an event that marked the closing days of the One Year War. After years of obscurity, the suit emerged once more at Side 6, now under the control of a young pilot named Shuji Ito.

01 Gundam

This prototype variant of the Gundam, developed by the Continuous Army, features a striking black-and-white color scheme and a distinctive visor-type camera eye, similar to that used in the Guncannon series. The cockpit employs a Core Block system, allowing it to function independently as an operator unit.

Its armaments include a beam saber, reminiscent of the RX-78-02 Gundam, to which it bears a strong resemblance. Reports suggest its mobility and overall performance were nearly identical to the RX-78-02.

During its confrontation with the captured Gundam, this unit was equipped with the Hyper Bazooka—a powerful, large-caliber live-ammunition weapon—enhancing its combat capabilities for the high-stakes battle.

POLICE ZAKU

The colonies of Side 6, responding to Zeon’s growing influence after the One Year War, transformed their Coastal Guard into a heavily armed military police force. To strengthen their mobile suit division, they repurposed Zaku units originally developed by the Principality of Zeon. Known as Military Police Zakus, these mobile suits are easily recognized by the rotating warning lights mounted on their shoulders. Standard weaponry includes a baton, a sasumata (a spear-like restraining tool), and a Zaku machine gun. However, many residents argue that such an arsenal exceeds the needs of self-defense. Special-forces variants are even more advanced, featuring additional boosters for enhanced mobility and a modified Zaku machine gun.

ZAKU
Clan Battle Version

After the war, numerous Zaku units were decommissioned and sold to the private sector, stripped of their combat-installer devices and repurposed primarily for civilian applications such as construction. However, many found their way into the underground world of illegal Clan Battle tournaments through extensive and often unauthorized modifications. These machines, while reflecting their owners' unique color schemes and design choices, clearly show their reliance on a patchwork of scavenged or limited parts, giving each a distinct yet makeshift appearance.

ZAKU
Civilian Version

In the private sector, some Zaku units have been repurposed for construction, with companies like Kuroshio Construction employing them for heavy labor. These Zakus are typically outfitted with specialized manipulators replacing standard arms, hazard lights, and additional protective coverings for safely transporting materials. The Zaku's renowned versatility and modular design continue to demonstrate their value, proving just as effective in civilian industries as they once were on the battlefield.

ZAKU
Pomeranians Version

This mobile suit, heavily customized by the junk dealer Kaneban, started its second life as a decommissioned Zaku sold into civilian ownership. Adapted for the underground world of illegal prize matches known as Clan Battles, it was once a key unit for Team Pomeranians, a group managed by Kaneban. However, its combat system eventually failed, leaving the suit temporarily unfit for battle. Its sole remaining weapon is the Tomenoske heat hawk, a civilian-produced replica of the classic Zaku heat hawk, designed more for practicality than power.

RGM-79
Light-Guncannon

The capture of the Gundam and Pegasus by Char Aznable sent shockwaves through the Earth Federation’s mobile suit development program, leading to significant upheaval. Among the resulting developments was a mobile suit that adopted the Core Block system and was designed as a light artillery unit.

Utilizing data from the Gundam's development, this new design integrated the Guncannon's artillery combat capabilities to enhance efficiency and productivity. Constructed from Luna Titanium alloy, the suit offered durability and performance suited for high-stakes combat.

One notable instance of this mobile suit's deployment was at Solomon, where a variant featuring unique color schemes, distinct from standard specifications, was confirmed to have been in operation.

RGM-79
GUNCANNON

As part of the Earth Federation Army's ambitious RX Plan, this mobile suit was designed with advanced capabilities, mirroring many of the innovations seen in the Gundam. The design incorporates a modular block-based system, emphasizing versatility and efficiency.

One of its standout features is the large beam cannon mounted on its back, providing exceptional artillery performance that sets it apart from other units. Equipped with specialized beam rifles as standard armament, this mobile suit is well-prepared for both ranged and close combat scenarios.

Its debut marked a significant milestone in the Federation's mobile suit program, showcasing the culmination of advanced engineering and combat effectiveness born from the RX Plan's vision.

  1. All the proportions on the mobile suits look weird. Also the white and red gundams look ugly as sin.

  2. All of these suits look so... decidedly Un-UC - especially considering that it takes place shortly before Zeta.

Granted, I'm not complaining at all - something different is almost always nice - I'm just wondering if there will be an in-universe reason given, or if it'll be like Endless Waltz where the suits just "always looked like that" and it's a stylistic choice.

    1. it's because it's not normal UC universe. if you read the descriptions, it states very different events that occured, so it's "shortly before Zeta" in a universe where Zeta doesn't exist.

  3. Definitely not diggin' these designs. And it's UC too!? Dear god, WTF 2025!

    1. if you read the descriptions, it's very obvious an alternate-UC, at least. doesn't stop it from being terrible looking, but i really don't know why anyone would expect anything different from over-the-top Anno...

    2. People often rush to judge without fully understanding what they're seeing. This series feels like a 'What If' scenario for Gundam, exploring new concepts and following trends to reach a broader audience. Gundam has evolved over the years, and while the classic designs hold their own charm, trying something fresh doesn't take away from what makes the series special. From what I've seen, the story sounds promising, and it still retains the core essence of Gundam—just with a unique alternate-universe twist and some added flavor.

    3. I see.. alternate UC timeline just like thunderbolt, huh. The only good thing from these "over-the-top" designs (for me at least) is that I can easily save my money from buying gunpla of this series. As for the story, I ain't judging sh*t till I see how they execute it. Keeping my expectation low after that "meh" WFM.

  4. I generally love re-imaginings, but the face of the Gundam bugs me. I'm still looking forward to watching it.

  5. So should we call this anime Rebuild of Gundam.
I hated the changes of the evas too. At least they didn't paint a weird waist stripe on any of them.
