Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway Opens July 23rd, Trailer Also Streamed

A new trailer for the anime film trilogy, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway has dropped during the live stream of the "It's New Year's Eve! Gundam Channel New Year's Eve Special". Showing more footage, key characters and the reveal of the official opening date on July 23, 2020!

The new trailer has also revealed that the new title for the anime will fall under Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, instead of Hathaway's Flash.

The story is based on Yoshiyuki Tomino's three-volume novel series, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, that was released from February 1, 1989 to April 1, 1990. The anime trilogy adaptation will focus on and will add a little more back story about Bright Noah's son, Hathaway Noa.

In addition to the opening date, a pre-celebration "Gundam Fan Gathering: Hathaway Heirs to Gundam" event on March 24, 2020 will be happening at the Zepp Diver City in Tokyo to reveal the full cast of the anime, and the theme song artist. Special guest Toru Furuya (Amuro Ray voice actor) will be attending the event for a special interview.

Production staff...

Sunrise will be leading the planning and production of the anime trilogy with the help of Yoshiyuki Tomino and Yatate Hajime's writing and direction. The mechanical design will be lead by mech designers, Katoki Hajime, Yamane Kimitoshi (Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team and Mobile Fighter G Gundam.), and including the original Hathaway's Flash mech designer, Moriki Yasuhiro.

Art direction will be lead by Nakamura Hideki, with the help of color design by Suzuki Takako and photography direction by Waki Kentarō. CG Directors Masuo Ryukou, and Fujie Tomohiro will be responsible for the final onscreen look and design of all mecha and other CG elements of the movie.

Sound director Kasamatsu Koji will be collaborating with the audio director Kimura Eriko to add lively background music and on-point sound effects for the events in the movie!

  1. Wonder if we'll get Xi Gundam model as a tie-in in July or they won't have it appear at all in film 1 and only release it for film 2.

  2. I have high Hope's for this film, with narrative being pretty boring aside from the eye candy and kits it allowed bandai to sell us (again). With the main anime focus being aimed at kids the older and UC fans are in need of something new for us too fall in love with.
Sentinel and Crossbone went likely get an anime release, so OVA's are all we got.

    1. I too am very excited about this one. I've been wanting this adaptation for as long as I've been a fan of the franchise.

  3. Not sure why the English title was shorten while the Japanese still keep the original title. Anyway, the most important thing is the movie itself. At least I could still watch the 1st episode in Japan this year.
