Two of Japan's most legendary sci-fi franchises have crossed paths, and the result is every bit as cool as you'd expect.
To celebrate the release of Yamato Forever REBEL3199: Chapter Six - The Azure Labyrinth, a brand-new collaboration visual featuring the Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Statue has been unveiled. The artwork was illustrated by manga artist Kia Asamiya, placing the iconic Space Battleship Yamato soaring above Odaiba's famous Unicorn Gundam in a scene that feels like a dream crossover for anime fans.
The collaboration isn't just for fun. Harutoshi Fukui, the general director of REBEL3199, also worked on the story for Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, giving this meeting of Yamato and Gundam a connection that goes beyond the artwork itself.
Fans can also watch the opening sequence from Chapter Six: The Azure Labyrinth, which begins with the Yamato unexpectedly appearing in the skies over Tokyo before flying past the towering Unicorn Gundam statue. It's one of those moments that makes you wish crossovers like this happened more often.
The collaboration arrives during the Unicorn Gundam statue's farewell celebration. After standing proudly outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza> since 2017, the iconic landmark is scheduled to be removed at the end of August 2026. For its final run, the statue has been transformed into RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL, featuring newly applied decals designed by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki.
Visitors still have time to experience the finale, complete with transformation performances, nightly projection shows, and a special campaign where guests who purchase items from the GUNDAM Café food truck can receive a Unicorn Gundam headband while supplies last.
It's a bittersweet moment for Gundam fans, but seeing the Yamato make one last flyby over the Unicorn Gundam feels like a fitting salute before one of Japan's most recognizable Gundam landmarks takes its final bow.
