Thunderbolt Creator Reaffirms Hope For Official GunPla After Bootleg Acguy Discussion

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt creator Yasuo Ohtagaki has shared a thoughtful follow-up message on X after several days of discussion surrounding an unauthorized 1/100 Acguy model kit based on the Thunderbolt version of the mobile suit.

Rather than continuing to focus on the unlicensed product itself, Ohtagaki took the opportunity to reflect on the conversations it sparked among fans.

In his post, he said that hearing the many different opinions regarding GunPla over the past few days had been meaningful. He also reaffirmed his love for Gundam and expressed his respect for Bandai, the company that helped grow the franchise into the massive success it is today.

Alongside his message, Ohtagaki also shared artwork featuring several memorable Thunderbolt mobile suits, including the Perfect Zeong (Thunderbolt Ver.), Bull-G, the Braw Bro docked with the Perfect Gundam, and the Zock (Thunderbolt Ver.). Many of these designs have yet to receive official GunPla releases, making the artwork a fitting companion to his comments.

"I love Gundam, and I have respect for Bandai, which has grown it into such a major content franchise. I continue to dream of the day when the mobile suits from Thunderbolt are officially made into GunPla and we can celebrate together with the fans."

Ohtagaki's words resonated with Thunderbolt fans who have long hoped to see more of the manga's unique mobile suits join Bandai's official GunPla lineup. While several popular designs have received kits over the years, many fan favorites remain absent from store shelves.
