Bandai Namco Filmworks and Sunrise have officially unveiled Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, the next major Gundam anime and the beginning of an all-new shared universe.
The newly announced series is directly connected to the upcoming video game Gundam Rogue Orbit, with the game taking place 100 years after the events of the anime. Together, they introduce a brand new timeline called A.A. (After Apocalypse).
Revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the first trailer introduced the mysterious Gundam ZERO, its young pilot Ray Azumi, and a future where humanity fights to survive after an alien intelligence transforms civilization forever.
A new timeline begins
The story starts with the arrival of an Autonomous Interstellar Object from another galaxy. Instead of invading humanity, it shares three revolutionary technologies:
- Gravity Control
- Faster-than-Light Communication
- Cognitive Materialization
The beginning of the After Apocalypse era
Humanity fights the Apocalypse for three months in orbit above Earth but ultimately fails to stop it.
Forced to abandon the planet, civilization starts over among the Moon and space colonies. The event becomes so significant that it marks the beginning of a new calendar. The first year after Earth's fall is known as A.A. 1, or After Apocalypse.
By A.A. 45, an entire generation has grown up without ever knowing what life on Earth was like before the Apocalypse.
It is during this era that Ray Azumi, the protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, begins his story on the Moon.
Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO Main Staff

Best known for directing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, and Blade Runner: Black Lotus. He is leading both the direction and overall story composition of RG XARX-ZERO.
Original Concept: Yoshiyuki Tomino & Hajime Yatate
The series is based on the original Gundam concept created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and the Sunrise collective pen name, Hajime Yatate.
SF Setting Supervisor: Toh EnJoe
An award-winning science fiction novelist known for blending complex scientific ideas with storytelling. He is responsible for shaping the science fiction foundation of the new universe.
Gundam Design: Eiichi Shimizu
The mechanical designer behind the new Gundam. Shimizu is widely known as the co-creator of the ULTRAMAN manga and has worked on numerous mecha designs.

Music: Go Shiina
An acclaimed composer recognized for his orchestral and cinematic scores across anime and video games, including works in the Tales series and Demon Slayer.
Production: SOLA ANIMATION
The studio producing Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, was established in 2022 and is part of the SOLA group led by producer Joseph Chou. While the studio itself is relatively new, it has already worked on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and is backed by the team behind CG productions such as Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, ULTRAMAN, and Appleseed Alpha.
