After standing guard over Odaiba for nearly nine years, the life-size RX-0 Unicorn Gundam is preparing for one last transformation before its retirement this summer.

Bandai Namco has announced that the famous statue outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza will be upgraded into "RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL" starting June 20, giving fans a special version of the iconic mobile suit to enjoy during its final months on display.

The life-size Unicorn Gundam first appeared on September 24, 2017, quickly becoming one of the most popular Gundam attractions in Japan. Since then, countless fans from around the world have made the pilgrimage to Odaiba to witness its transformations, nighttime shows, and towering 19.7-meter frame in person.

Now, with the statue scheduled to leave Odaiba on August 31, Bandai Namco is giving it a proper send-off.

The biggest change comes in the form of newly added decals created by mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. The special markings will transform the statue into RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL, a unique farewell version designed specifically for its grand finale.

X user yoshi115t shared some latest Unicorn Gundam statue's images with the newly designed decals.

Fans visiting between June 20 and August 31 will be able to see the updated appearance while enjoying the statue's regular transformation performances throughout the day.

Daytime transformation shows will continue at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.

Once the sun goes down, the Festival Square will once again come alive with projection shows featuring Gundam favorites including Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway's Flash, Mobile Suit Gundam UC, Mobile Suit Gundam UC Perfectibility, and GUNDAM.

As if a final-form Unicorn Gundam wasn't enough, visitors can also pick up a special souvenir during the final months of the statue's run.

The GUNDAM Café food truck at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza will be handing out Unicorn Gundam headbands throughout its operating days from June through August. Fans will receive one headband for every item purchased, making it easier than ever to match the famous mobile suit while snapping commemorative photos.

Bandai Namco has also teased additional activities connected to THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO ANNEX, with more announcements expected in the coming weeks.

With the countdown to August 31 officially underway, RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL looks set to give Odaiba's legendary guardian the farewell it deserves. For longtime fans, this summer may be the last chance to stand beneath one of the most recognizable Gundam landmarks ever built.
