The celebration of 47 years of Mobile Suit Gundam is getting a delicious twist as McDonald’s Japan teams up with the legendary franchise for a limited-time “Chicken Tatsuta” collaboration.
Kicking things off, a brand-new TV commercial featuring completely original animation produced by Sunrise will begin airing on April 14. Styled like a classic next-episode preview, the spot delivers a fun, over-the-top scenario where Amuro Ray pilots the “Gundam Chicken Tatsuta Custom” to face off against Char Aznable, who is closing in on the prized Chicken Tatsuta. Tying it all together is the iconic track Fly! Gundam, bringing a wave of nostalgia to longtime fans.
While the commercial is available on McDonald’s Japan’s official YouTube channel, it is currently region-locked to Japan, making it a bit elusive for international fans.
Limited-Time Menu Lineup
Starting April 15, the collaboration introduces two new variations of the beloved Chicken Tatsuta sandwich:
- Tartar Yurinchi-style Chicken Tatsuta
- Cheese Chicken Tatsuta
In addition, McDonald's Japan has also revealed special cups for their McFloat Japanese Citrus Yogurt Flavor, and McFizz Japanese Citrus Yogurt Flavor, featuring the RX-78-2 Gundam on its final shooting pose.
Exclusive Packaging and Rewards
The collaboration goes beyond the menu, with each item served in special packaging featuring designs from Mobile Suit Gundam. Expect to see iconic visuals of the Gundam itself, alongside Amuro, Char, and even Char’s Zaku II, turning every meal into a collectible moment.
From April 15 to May 12, fans can also take part in a themed digital campaign through the McDonald's app. By accumulating points via the My McDonald’s Rewards program, users can redeem exclusive Mobile Suit Gundam wallpapers, adding a digital bonus to the collaboration.
