MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam
Release: March 2027
Price: 26,400 yen
The Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam is officially joining the MGEX lineup, taking one of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom’s most powerful mobile suits into Bandai Spirits’ high-end Master Grade Extreme series.
The ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam combines the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II with the Proud Defender, a support craft that replaces its Super DRAGOON Mobile Weapon Wings and unlocks a new level of combat capability.
The Proud Defender is equipped with technology capable of deploying nanoparticles for both offense and defense. These can form a spherical barrier around the mobile suit to defend against attacks from every direction, while also unleashing powerful electrical bursts across a wide area.
The added output also allows the Mighty Strike Freedom to activate its ultimate weapon, the Convergent Heavy Nucleon Beam Cannon "Disruptor," a weapon the Strike Freedom Type II could not use on its own.
And, of course, the Proud Defender also equips the Mighty Strike Freedom with the Futsunomitama, the massive physical sword that became one of the mobile suit’s defining weapons in Gundam SEED Freedom.
For this MGEX release, Bandai Spirits is taking the Mighty Strike Freedom’s gold-heavy design in a new direction. The theme behind the kit is "Iridescent Expression," with Bandai using its mechanical core plating technology to pursue an even greater level of sparkle and color variation.
The kit will also make GunPla history as the first to use colored plastic mechanical core plating.
The gold parts have been completely reworked as well. Multiple types of gold plating and extra finishes are combined with real metallic gloss injection molding to create different tones and gradations across the Mighty Strike Freedom.
Underneath the armor, the kit is based on the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam’s highly articulated frame, with some parts newly molded for the Mighty Strike Freedom. That frame is already known for its extensive frame-linked articulation, so seeing it return here with newly designed components should give this release plenty to work with.
The kit also recreates the Disruptor using interchangeable deployment parts, allowing us to display the Mighty Strike Freedom with its devastating weapon activated.
Bandai has not forgotten about the characters either. Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne figures can be placed inside the cockpit, while another Lacus figure can be piloted inside the Proud Defender. A separate standing Lacus figure is also included, allowing fans to recreate one of the film’s memorable scenes by placing her on the Mighty Strike Freedom’s chest.
The MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom comes equipped with the Futsunomitama anti-ship sword, Prototype Type 35 Modified Railguns, two beam rifles, two beam sabers, arm beam shield effect parts, Disruptor deployment parts, character figures, interchangeable hand parts, a display base, and stickers.
With brand-new mechanical core plating technology, multiple types of gold finishes, the return of MGEX’s highly articulated Strike Freedom-based frame, and the massive Proud Defender, the Mighty Strike Freedom is getting exactly the kind of extravagant treatment we would expect from the MGEX line.
