The wait is over. The long-anticipated second installment of the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway trilogy has officially been revealed with the drop of its first special teaser trailer — “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe.” Following its acclaimed 2021 debut, the Hathaway saga returns to the big screen next winter across Japan.

Directed once again by Shukou Murase, with a screenplay by Yasuyuki Muto and music by Hiroyuki Sawano, this new chapter continues Hathaway Noa’s descent into the shadows of rebellion.

During early development, the second film in the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway trilogy was given the working title San of Bright, a phrase that producer Naohiro Ogata revealed to carry layered meaning. In Japanese, “San” (サン) can be read as both “sun” and “son,” alluding not only to warmth and illumination, but also to Hathaway Noa’s role as the heir to his father, Bright Noa’s legacy. This symbolic title reflected the weight of expectation that Hathaway continues to wrestle with in the film’s narrative arc.

Ogata also confirmed that the second installment would take creative liberties, deviating from the original events of Yoshiyuki Tomino’s novel. Unlike a strict adaptation, this chapter will expand the cinematic interpretation of Hathaway’s journey, incorporating original elements and visual storytelling approaches unique to the animated format.

The Return of Hathaway Noa

Kensho Ono reprises his powerful role as Hathaway, whose transformation from the idealistic son of Bright Noa into the haunted leader of Mafty continues to unfold. Reina Ueda returns as the enigmatic Gigi Andalucia, still as unreadable and ethereal as ever, while Junichi Suwabe’s Kenneth Sleg and Soma Saito’s Lane Aim round out the cast — both military men caught in the crosswinds of Hathaway’s revolution.

A World of Design and Detail

The film is a visual powerhouse once more, with mechanical designs by industry legends Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, and others. Each frame pulses with rich detail, blending hand-drawn animation with cutting-edge CG under the eye of CG Director Ryukow Masuo and Director of Photography Yoshihisa Ohyama. From sleek mobile suits to crumbling cityscapes, the visual artistry is more immersive than ever.

Behind the scenes, an all-star creative team returns:
  • Original Story: Yoshiyuki Tomino, Hajime Yatate
  • Character Designs: pablo uchida, Naoyuki Onda, Shigeki Kuhara
  • Original Designs: Haruhiko Mikimoto (characters), Kazumi Fujita and Yasuhiro Moriki (mecha)
  • Sound: Supervised by Koji Kasamatsu and Eriko Kimura
  • Editing: Daisuke Imai
Produced by Sunrise under the Bandai Namco Filmworks banner, the film will be distributed in Japan by Bandai Namco Filmworks and Shochiku Co., Ltd.
