Bandai Shuts Down Dragon Momoko and Will Continue to Hunt Down other Bootleg Companies

Sunrise and Bandai recently announced the closing of one of the biggest unlicensed companies.

Press release translated by Gundam Model Center

"We have proof that the DM has produced and sold a very large amount of illegal Gundam kits which infringe the copyright of Bandai. We have submitted a law case against Dragon Momoko in September 2017 in Shanghai City. And the Shanghai Police is taking very serious action about this case and thanks to their swift action that the factory that produces the DM kits is finally closed for business and a lot of their models has been confiscated by the authorities. And the owner of the factory is also under detain. Also, we have asked the Taobao to close 2 main stores which sells the DM kits Recently in China and other country. There are a lot of fake gundams and gundam re-sellers and this affects our business and we will continue to hunt them down from this day forward. And also we thank the Chinese police force for taking serious action and measure. We will continue to work together to crack down fake copies of GunPla. And also we hope consumer to support this and continue to buy only original kit."

  1. Hey Bandai, please shut down Daban instead. Daban were the little snitches who put the blame on Dragon Momoko.

    1. Bandai actually wants to take things by little steps for more support. After all they do need the court to support them so if they want to kill the big fish, they need to take down the smaller or less known companies first. If they can win against DM then they can try to win against Daban because there is still a chance Daban can make it for Bandai to lose.

  2. well in my opinion bandai is threaten that dragonmomoko might overcome their popularity in making mastergrades models, what a shame bandai there are many bootleg companies out there why dragonmomoko to be shut down first?

  3. I feel like Bandai wouldn't have to worry so much if they'd make the variety of kits 3rd party companies do. I'm pretty tired of P-Bandai and release after release of the same kit. Thanks to 3rd party companies I have an RG Barzam Kai, GP00 Blossom and Mudrock. Doubt Bandai would ever have gotten to those unique and cool kits.

  4. Daban got too greedy and started the bootleg Armageddon.

Greedy idiots working in tandem with corrupt officials.

  5. Dragon Momoko gave not just rip-offs but offered stuff bandai can't deliver. DABAN on the other hand were the bigger rip-offs.

  6. Don't blame on Dabans. Blame on the 3 people who made a custom from Bandai and DM's parts in the gwc. Watch a video in you tube then you'll understand. Ben dover, good luck on getting boring kits when DM's has their on innovation for their kits. Blue frame 3rd form gone!! Do you thing "Bandai" will release them. Heck no.

  7. I understand thrid party bootleggers, but wasn't dragon momoko making kits that fans wanted but bandai wouldn't make? The way i see it, it wasn't as if DM was deliberately trying to compete to with bandai.

  8. Great, now that the main competition is gone, nothing will stop them to NOT improve on their engineering.

And we all know that piracy only stops if you give the consumer what they want. They were not losing a ton of money, honestly (maybe with the Strike and Exia kits, and the MB ones), but that's it. Other than that, Bandai doesn't have a MG Testament to offer, nor a MG D-Hell TV Version, not even an Akatsuki MG.

So, were they really losing money? No.

Were they really losing their main demographic target (Japan/China?)? No/Probably?

Are they gonna release some of the kits these companies did bother to make? Most likely not.

  9. From multiple sources I've learnt that Bandai is somehow fine with Daban. I personally find it really wierd but that explains why Dragon Momoko was killed first. But apparently Dragon Momoko is coming back after another name change into something like fire dragon (火龍果) so don't worry

  10. The moment they release the exia repairs set this happens
It have been nice if bandai would atleast sell the exia varations retail instead of pbandai

  11. I think there is a lesson to be learnt here. It just shows that whatever DM has released that Bandai did not, there was a demand from the consumers and DM met it. Hopefully this should give a sign to let Bandai know that mass consumers want certain kits to be released outside of the webshop.

  12. Word of warning: do NOT buy any remaining DMM kits on ebay if the sellers are from HK, shsnhsi or zeljian.

The auctions are fake. Once you pay they'll give a fake tracking number or send an empty box to a wrong address.

Scammers are taking advantage of the rush to get DMM kits before they disappear.

  14. bandai is scared to DM, bcoz DM is becoming a prime competitors in building kits.. if they dont shut down DM they could become second place to DM bcoz the quality of DM is becoming one that can compete to bandai

  16. if not mistaken bandai will take the blueprint of the blue frame 3rd form and sell as ANOTHER Pbandai......R.I.P DM

  17. Considering how popular the Dragon Momoko kits are, Bandai should just employ the guy(s) who makes Dragon Momoko kits. At least their kits will get some variety!

  18. That sucks. At least it'll still be able to get a Deathscythe Hell TV Ver. from Bandai...

  19. I have the DM Dhell tv kit and this is what i have to say... Yes the outside is ORIGINAL AS THERE IS NO GUNDAM KIT LIKE IT. But, the exo skeleton and beam blades are definitely BANDAI. IP IS IPand id have to side with bandai on that because they did pay engineers to study and build those. Heck I won't be surprised if the machine they use are bandai clones. I just hoped DM did what ANAKLOUSMOS did and made their own thing, crude but definitely ORIGINAL.
