Fans of classic Gundam animation have a special destination to add to their summer plans.

The Tagawa City Museum of Art in Fukuoka will host "The Work of Legendary Animator Hirotoshi Sano" beginning June 27, offering visitors a rare chance to explore the remarkable career of one of anime's most respected animators.

Hirotoshi Sano is widely known among Gundam fans for his work as mechanical animation director on Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and Mobile Fighter G Gundam. His dynamic animation style helped bring some of the franchise's most memorable mobile suit scenes to life, earning him a place among the industry's most celebrated creators.


The exhibition looks back on Sano's extensive career, which spans numerous anime classics including Venus Wars, The Vision of Escaflowne, and RahXephon. Visitors will be able to trace his artistic journey through a collection that highlights both his professional achievements and personal creative endeavors.

One of the biggest highlights is the display of more than 1,500 drawings created by Sano. Known not only as an animator but also as a prolific illustrator, Sano continues to draw daily, and this massive collection offers a fascinating glimpse into his artistic passion and dedication.

For Gundam fans, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship behind some of the franchise's most iconic animation work. From detailed mobile suit drawings to production materials and illustrations, the event celebrates the legacy of a creator whose influence can still be felt across anime today.

"The Work of Legendary Animator Hirotoshi Sano" will run at the Tagawa City Museum of Art from June 27 through August 23.
