Bandai is bringing the RX-78-2 Gundam to the EXCEED MODEL TRINITY series, with a special version featuring cable and lighting units available through the Gashapon Online Shop.
The EXCEED MODEL TRINITY RX-78-2 Gundam is a new capsule-less Gashapon figure that uses three separate components to complete a roughly 20cm-tall RX-78-2 Gundam bust.
The three components are the Exterior, Internal Structure, and Core Fighter Cockpit. Each one is sold individually and randomly, with each component having a 33.33% chance of being received.
This means collectors will need to obtain all three components to complete the RX-78-2 Gundam.
The exterior component recreates the Gundam's outer armor, while the Internal Structure reveals the mechanical details underneath. The Core Fighter Cockpit recreates the central section of the mobile suit and includes additional details inside.
The Gashapon Online Shop version adds cable and light units to the three components, allowing the completed RX-78-2 Gundam to be displayed with additional lighting effects, and mechanical aesthetics.
Despite being available through Gashapon Online, this is still a random individual purchase. Each order gives collectors one of the three components, rather than providing all three pieces together.
The Gashapon Online Shop edition is priced at 1,850 yen per random item, including tax. Sales began on August 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. JST, with delivery scheduled for late October 2026.
A regular version of the EXCEED MODEL TRINITY RX-78-2 Gundam is also scheduled to release through Gashapon machines in Japan from September 2026, priced at 1,500 yen per random item.
The Gashapon Online Shop version is therefore the more feature-packed release, adding the cable and lighting gimmicks while retaining the same three-part random format.
For collectors looking to complete the full RX-78-2 Gundam, getting all three components will be part of the challenge. With each component having a 33.33% chance of appearing, completing the bust could take several attempts.
