Zodiac Gundam Series Rides Into 2026 With the Year of the Horse

Bandai Namco continues its creative fusion of tradition and mecha with the Chinese Zodiac Gundam Project, unveiling the Year of the Horse Gundam (午马 / Wu Ma) set for release in 2026. This unique collaboration brings together the legendary world of Mobile Suit Gundam and the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, with each mobile suit designed to reflect the spirit and symbolism of the zodiac animal it represents.

What “Wu Ma” Means

In the Chinese zodiac system, “Wu” (午) is one of the Twelve Earthly Branches, traditionally associated with midday and the Horse. Combined with “Ma” (马) meaning “Horse,” Wu Ma (午马) directly translates to “Year of the Horse.”

This terminology emphasizes the cultural connection behind the Gundam design, aligning the mobile suit with the energy, speed, traditionally linked to the Horse.

2026 marks the Year of the Horse (Wu Ma) in the zodiac calendar. The newly revealed Gundam design embodies the dynamic power, freedom, and vitality of the horse, brought to life through bold armor lines and striking detailing. The horse symbol is prominently featured, blending cultural artistry with Gundam’s iconic mechanical style.
