P-Bandai: MG 1/100 Gundam Astraea + Proto GN Twin Broad Blade
Release Date: January 2025 [3rd Batch Release: May 2025]
Price: 7,150 Yen

The Gundam Astraea, known as the "Goddess of Justice" from the side story "Mobile Suit Gundam 00P" has arrived in the Master Grade (MG) GunPla series!  Designed by Kanetake Ebikawa, it features a newly molded "Proto GN Twin Broad Blade". It includes various weapons and water slide decals for added customization.

The Astraea's unique design is a precursor to the iconic Gundam Exia, and its distinct parts are carefully color-coded to highlight the differences in their shapes. Notably, the mobile suit’s GN Drive, along with chest and back armor, can be outfitted with LED units (sold separately), enhancing its visual presence.

The newly molded Proto GN Twin Broad Blade is one of it standout features. The blade can be separated from the center, allowing it to function as a medium-sized sword when divided. Additionally, the GN Long Blade and GN Short Blade can be connected, offering enhanced weaponry for the mobile suit. This blade system is designed to seamlessly integrate with the MG series’ unique connection gimmicks, supporting a variety of dynamic poses.

As a Master Grade model, the Gundam Astraea comes fully equipped with a range of weaponry that reflects its formidable nature. These include the Proto GN Sword, Proto GN Launcher, GN Beam Rifle, and Proto GN Shield. Each weapon, from the GN Beam Saber to the GN Sword, allows for impressive posing and customization.

  1. The P-Bandai strategy is interesting. Let's see if it works out for them.

  2. Cmon man this is cringe. Almost every MG release has been a p Bandai. It looks good but this is extortion at this point..

  3. The P-Bandai complaint is pretty weak with this release, IMO. It's an obscure variation of a unit from a manga only side story, this has no general appeal aside from looking pretty neat, but I believe most consumers usually buy the main story Gundam MS, and even less buy the antagonist units, with rare exception.

    1. Yeah, this is definitely something that SHOULD be P-Bandai, but people are more complaining about the fact that (as somebody else here pointed out) pretty much every MG release anymore is a P-Bandai, and it's true: we only had two retail MG releases in 2024 (Narrative C-Packs Ver Ka. and Sinanju Stein Ver. Ka) as well as only one in 2023 (Zeta - also a Ver Ka.). P-Bandai releases on the other hand, are well-into the double digits. Even higher if you count expansion parts and whatnot.

While I'm with you regarding this release, the principal (IMO) remains when you consider that ratio.

  4. At this point, they're using P-Bandai to limit production runs, avoid potential losses due to unsold inventory, and increase margins thanks to inflated prices - especially for western customers.
Yeah, I don't expect Bandai to change this tactic anytime soon, unfortunately. Japanese fans will still buy P-Bandai without a care I guess, but we should all be smarter and express our opinion with our wallets.
