Bandai has revealed an updated Master Grade 1/100 Re-GZ, now redesigned to reflect its appearance in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. Originally released as an MG kit in 2001, this refreshed version features newly molded parts and updated engineering to better align with modern GunPla standards while preserving the iconic design of the classic mobile suit.

Several key sections of the kit have been newly reworked to improve proportions and articulation.

Head
  • The Re-GZ receives a completely newly molded head sculpt, refined to better match the proportions of the updated body and deliver a sharper, more modern look.

Torso
  • The torso has been upgraded with newly molded exterior armor parts. In addition, the abdomen features redesigned joint components that enhance flexibility and allow for improved articulation in action poses.

Legs
  • The leg armor has also been updated with new molds, giving the mobile suit improved proportions and a broader range of motion. Newly engineered joint parts support smoother movement and make transforming the unit into its Waverider-style configuration with the BWS system more stable.

Accessories
  • Beam Rifle (updated version)
  • Shield
  • Beam Saber
  • BWS (Back Weapon System)
Developed by Anaheim Electronics, the Re-GZ was designed as a simplified derivative of Zeta Gundam. While the Zeta Gundam featured a complex full transformation system, the Re-GZ instead relied on a detachable Back Weapon System (BWS) to achieve a Waverider-like flight configuration, reducing manufacturing complexity and cost.

The mobile suit’s base frame also shares certain structural elements with the RGM-89 Jegan, further supporting its role as a more practical design intended for wider deployment.

  1. Behold! Two frames of television will become a sixty dollar model kit!

Wish they'd put the effort into making a HG Revive or a MG 2.0 of this instead of slightly tweaking old kits.

    1. Finite resources. Any effort devoted in one location is detracted from another. So Bandai make allocations of manpower and budget based on expected returns.

    2. The HGUC is a decent kits. It don't need Revive.

  2. With all the Char's Counterattack releases within the past few years, I'm honestly surprised that they're doing this instead of a Re-GZ 2.0 or a Re-GZ ver KA.

  3. ...huh. Can't say I expected this.

Not really sure the small changes are worth it, though. The only complaint I have about the original MG is that the hands are absolute trash and can't hold it's rifle.

    1. I saw it coming a mile away. Building the MG ReGZ Custom as I type this out, half of the new plates are labeled "Re-GZ Custom" but the other half are just "Re-Gz". I think the Custom looks really sharp, but the balljoint hips and the simple construction of the foot is pretty disappointing. I'd pickup the new Re-GZ if I could get it at a decent price.

    2. If you like ReGZ, then you will definitely love this "upgraded" kit. There's a lot of things that are fixed. The both of the shoulder and hip joint is changed, similar to the current MG articulation.

The mold itself are also made so that the torso look better and the head doesn't seems too big compared to the old one.

    1. Yeah, perfectly understandable. This suit was probably on screen for about TWO FRAMES of animation. It appeared in the Ra Cailum's hangar near the beginning of episode 4 the first time we see the Tri Stars' Jestas launch at Dakar.

Literally blink or you'll miss it.

    2. A spare RE-GZ happens to be stored on the Ra Cailum during Unicorn

  5. This one kinda piques my interest. It kinda looks like the problem with the hands have been solved and since my problems with the torso are fixed. Plus, I'm in love with the colors.

  6. I probably would have gotten this instead of the Re-GZ Custom had it come out first. Oh well.

  7. I'm glad that they were able to give the RE-GZ the 1.5 update.

  8. Geez Bandai, just make a 1.5 Re-GZ if you're gonna improve the mold via variants!
