Three decades after After War Gundam X first aired, the series continues to leave its mark. As part of the 30th anniversary program "How Are Things After War?", director Shinji Takamatsu delivered a personal message in Episode 0, reflecting on the journey and legacy of the series.

Looking back on its production, Takamatsu didn’t hold back on the emotion behind it:
“30 years ago, in the middle of all that chaos and despair, the cast and staff came together and poured their hearts into making this project. Knowing that it’s stayed in people’s hearts for so long truly fills me with gratitude.”
At the core of After War Gundam X is Garrod Ran, a character who stood tall in a broken world. For Takamatsu, Garrod represented something much bigger:
“Garrod, living strong and honest through the harsh, ruined postwar world, was really our symbol of hope.”
Even after 30 years, the message behind the series continues to resonate, reaching new audiences and reminding longtime fans why it mattered in the first place:
“Even as times change, if the feelings we put into this work have reached someone, somewhere, that makes me incredibly happy.”
He closed his message with a simple but meaningful hope for the future of the series:
“I hope everyone will keep loving this work.”
As anniversary celebrations continue, Takamatsu’s words highlight exactly why After War Gundam X still stands out, not just as a Gundam title, but as a story carried by sincerity, resilience, and quiet hope.
