Set within the Universal Century timeline, the story unfolds during and after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam. The manga is licensed by Viz Media in North America and Shogakukan Asia in Southeast Asia.
An original net animation (ONA) adaptation by Sunrise aired in two parts: the first between December 2015 and April 2016, and the second between March and July 2017.
Plot Summary
Taking place alongside the One Year War, Thunderbolt is an alternate Universal Century story centered on the battle for the Thunderbolt Sector, a hazardous debris field filled with wreckage from destroyed space colonies and intense electrical discharges.
The sector, controlled by Zeon’s Living Dead Division, serves as a crucial supply route to the A Baoa Qu fortress. However, the Earth Federation’s Moore Brotherhood launches an assault to reclaim the area. The story follows Io Fleming, a Federation pilot, as he clashes with Daryl Lorenz, Zeon’s most formidable sniper, in a brutal, high-stakes battle that pushes both pilots to their limits.
