Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt has officially surpassed 5.5 million copies sold, marking another huge milestone for Yasuo Ohtagaki’s gritty, high-stakes take on the Universal Century. Since its debut in Big Comic Superior in March 2012, the series has continued to push the boundaries of what a Gundam story can be, delivering breathtaking battles, complex characters, and a level of intensity rarely seen in the franchise.

Set during the One Year War, Thunderbolt throws readers into the chaos of the Thunderbolt Sector, a debris-filled warzone where the Earth Federation’s Moore Brotherhood and Zeon’s Living Dead Division fight for control. At the heart of it all are two of the most compelling rival pilots in Gundam history—Io Fleming, the reckless, jazz-loving Federation ace, and Daryl Lorenz, Zeon’s elite sniper who will do whatever it takes to survive. Their clash isn’t just about the war; it’s about ideals, revenge, and survival, making every battle feel deeply personal.

With detailed mobile suit combat, high-stakes drama, and Ohtagaki’s dynamic, hyper-detailed art style, it’s no surprise that Thunderbolt has captivated fans worldwide. The series has redefined Gundam storytelling, blending classic Universal Century elements with a grittier, more mature tone that resonates with longtime fans, and even new comers.

Beyond the manga, Thunderbolt has made its mark with a two-part original net animation (ONA) by Sunrise, further solidifying its place in the Gundam universe. And with Volume 25 set for release on February 28, 2025, the series is showing no signs of slowing down.
