The block buster anime film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is set to release in Indian cinemas on Friday, January 17, 2025, as confirmed by PVR Pictures. Fans can enjoy the movie in Japanese audio with English subtitles.

The 124-minute film debuted with impressive commercial success in Japan, earning 3.1 billion yen (approximately $20.6 million USD) from 1.86 million tickets within its first three weeks. This outstanding performance positioned the film as the highest-grossing entry in the Gundam franchise, surpassing the iconic 1982 hit Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, which earned 2.3 billion yen (about $15.5 million USD).

The film's premiere marked a major milestone for the series. Its opening weekend revenue outperformed Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway (2021) by 416.4%, with ticket sales increasing by an impressive 502.8% compared to Hathaway's opening weekend.

Following its initial Japanese release on January 26, 2024, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom achieved a remarkable box office milestone of 5 billion yen (roughly $34.5 million USD), with 3 million tickets sold nationwide. The film ran for 119 days—approximately 17 weeks—before concluding on May 23, 2024.

Synopsis

Set in Cosmic Era 75, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom unfolds amidst escalating struggles for independence and the looming menace of Blue Cosmos. Kira Yamato and his allies, as key members of Compass, engage in intense battles. The Emerging Countries Foundation proposes a joint offensive with Compass to strike Blue Cosmos' headquarters, paving the way for a climactic showdown that will decide humanity's future.
