GKIDS has officially acquired the North American rights to Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, which will hit theaters on February 28, 2025. This groundbreaking collaboration brings together studio khara, renowned for the EVANGELION series, and SUNRISE, the historic creators of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.
Set in a space colony floating in outer space, the story follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high school student leading a quiet life until she meets Nyaan, a war refugee. Their meeting propels Amate into the dangerous underground world of Clan Battle—an illegal mobile suit dueling sport.
Under the alias "Machu," Amate becomes a fierce competitor, piloting the GQuuuuuuX in intense battles. Her world takes a dramatic turn when an unidentified Gundam mobile suit, pursued by both the space force and the police, crosses her path. Alongside the Gundam is its mysterious pilot, Shuji, whose arrival signals the dawn of a new era for humanity.
GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- serves as the theatrical edit of the new Gundam anime series slated to debut in 2025.
This marks the first-ever major collaboration between studio khara and SUNRISE, combining their creative forces to deliver an unforgettable entry into the Gundam universe. Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL), with a screenplay co-written by Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena) and Hideaki Anno (EVANGELION series), this anime promises a visual spectacle and a compelling narrative for fans old and new.
