Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Hits 5 Billion Yen After Its Return on September 20th

The Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom film has achieved a significant milestone, reaching 5 billion yen (approximately 34.5 million USD) in box office revenue, with 3 million tickets sold nationwide. Initially released on January 26, 2024, the film ran for an impressive 119 days—about 17 weeks—before concluding on May 23, 2024.


To the delight of fans, the film returned to Japanese theaters on September 20, 2024, featuring over 500 newly updated scenes and additional brand-new epilogue cuts. This special screening will be available until October 3, 2024.

Looking ahead, the second edition of the film's return to theaters will be screened in Japan from November 1 to November 14, 2024.

In addition, to commemorate the milestone, the official Gundam SEED X account has unveiled a new illustration for the SEED Freedom film. The artwork showcases the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II and Infinite Justice Gundam Type II, with the Black Knight Squad Cal-re.A dramatically featured in the background.


SYNOPSIS

Set in Cosmic Era 75, the story picks up amid ongoing battles for independence and mounting threats from the organization Blue Cosmos. In response, a global peacekeeping organization known as Compass is established, with Lacus Clyne taking on the role of its first president. Kira Yamato and his allies, as members of Compass, face a series of intense battles. The Emerging Countries Foundation proposes a coordinated effort with Compass to strike at Blue Cosmos' headquarters, setting the stage for an epic showdown that will determine the fate of humanity.
