AX Cinema Nights Adds Mobile Suit Gundam Films to 2024/2025

AX Cinema Nights is expanding its 2024/2025 schedule with a selection of films from one of the most iconic mecha franchises in anime history—Mobile Suit Gundam. Announced today, the lineup will include four classic Gundam films: Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.

In celebration of the event and the Mobile Suit Gundam anime's 45th anniversary, these beloved Gundam films will be screened in 500 theaters across North America.

• Mobile Suit Gundam will debut on October 3 and October 6, 2024.

• SYNOPSIS: In the year Universal Century 0079, humanity has colonized space between Earth and the moon. The Zabi family, rulers of the Duchy of Zeon, sparks a devastating war, wiping out half of humanity in just one week. Using powerful 60-foot Mobile Suits, Zeon occupies half of Earth's surface. The Earth Federation’s only hope is the secret "V Project" from Side 7, which aims to develop Mobile Suits for their forces. During a Zeon attack led by ace pilot Char Aznable, 15-year-old Amuro Ray stumbles upon the Gundam, a prototype mobile suit, and quickly becomes an ace pilot. Along with other Side 7 residents, Amuro is drafted into the Federal Forces, tasked with escorting the Gundam and the battleship White Base to Earth. Their survival and success against Zeon remain uncertain.

• Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow will be shown on October 16 and October 20, 2024.

• SYNOPSIS: The crew of the Federation warship White Base, along with its mobile suits, must battle Zeon forces—including Char Aznable, Garma Zabi, Ramba Ral, Ma Kube, the Tri-Stars, and Boone—while traveling through Asia, Europe, and the Atlantic Ocean to reach Earth Federation headquarters. Along the way, crew members like Amuro Ray, Bright Noah, Kai Shinden, Sayla Mass, Mirai Yashima, Fraw Bow, and Hayato Kobayashi must confront their fears, personal losses, and grow as individuals to overcome the challenges ahead.

• Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space will play on October 23 and October 27, 2024.

• SYNOPSIS: Amuro Ray and the White Base crew, now designated as the 13th Autonomous Corps, return to space to play a vital role in the Earth Federation's final battle against the Duchy of Zeon. With their skills sharpened and responsibilities heightened, they support the Federation fleet in a decisive conflict. As the pressure mounts, Amuro contends with his evolving Newtype abilities, while the crew faces the challenges of space warfare, all in hopes of bringing an end to the war and securing peace.

• Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack will be in theaters on March 12 and March 16, 2025.

• Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, once allies, now face each other in a decisive duel as Char leads Neo Zeon in a plan to drop a nuclear-armed asteroid onto Earth, intending to cause a Nuclear Winter and wipe out humanity. Amuro, piloting the RX-93 nu Gundam, must stop Char's destructive plan, with their battle representing not only a clash of skills but also opposing ideologies. Char believes humanity's future lies in space, while Amuro fights to protect life on Earth. Their confrontation is the culmination of years of rivalry and will determine the fate of both Earth and space.
