Watch the Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy for free via Gundam Info starting from June 16th.
The Mobile Suit Gundam film is a re-edited version of the 43-episode original 1979 Gundam anime, compressed in a three part movie to follow the success of the TV series. The first and second parts titled; Mobile Suit Gundam, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Soldiers of Sorrow were released in 1981. While the 3rd part - Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space was released in 1982.
Each of the three films consists of footage from the original TV anime series, with some parts removed by director Tomino to define Gundam the way he wanted. The third film also includes a significant amount of new footage expanding on the battles of Solomon and A Baoa Qu.
The first Gundam film attracted a large audience of at least 15,000 when it premiered, raising concerns among police and the media that it could spark social unrest by a rioting mob. According to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper, the event is considered a turning point in anime history and is known as "the day anime changed".
The Gundam trilogy film grossed 5.45 billion Yen at the Japanese box office, with the first film having the highest gross of 1.76 billion Yen.
To commemorate the film's success, all three compilations were first released on VHS with English subtitles in 1998. A year later, Bandai released an English-dubbed version of the compilation, starring Michael Lindsay as Amuro Ray and Steve Blum as Char Aznable.
The trilogy film is also available to watch on Netflix along with other titles such as Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Char's Counterattack.

Hathaway will be my favorite so far. I also wish they stream the Origin series.
