Gundam Blog 06: The love for the Gundam Thunderbolt Part 1

Gundam Thunderbolt - The series of amazingly designed mobile suits and their unlimited verniers here and there will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm still disappointed that the GunPla series for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt series came to a sudden halt. But knowing that they just celebrated their 10th anniversary and are still continues to tease us here and there with related product releases, I'm more interested that they actually continue the GunPla line, just like a few more of us!

I still find my self Googling about this title for its unique designs and planning how I could continue the lineup myself by customizing from what's available for us.

Anyway, while I was browsing the manga section at my local bookstore I found myself looking at Thunderbolt's manga volumes 16th and 18th, which I haven't gone through just yet... since I got really busy at work and got myself stuck in Vol. 2 of the manga (LOL) - so I kind of spoiled myself a little bit and opened their "full colored pages"...Ahhh, the Bull-G and Federation's Gelgoog (cries for GunPla versions of these).

Obviously, there's a lot more mobile suits that didn't make it to the GunPla series, both of the Perfect Zeong and Perfect Gundam are just another great examples of what needs to be released in this forgotten GunPla lineup.

With all that said, I personally don't give up hope because the series is still young and has a lot of potential. Not to mention that the ONA series needs to continue and explore its manga storyline as it grows with the years it's been in existence.

As of today, I am still looking into collecting all of its English manga volumes. With some of them are now hard to find, I am now on the hunt to complete each and catch up on reading while I wait for the English translation of its 20th volume to be released sometime later this year.

  1. At this point, I've stopped wanting for the cool but less known suits to ever get kits because they'll likely get relegated to the PB shadowrealm where most will never get hands on. Bandai will need to reconsider their current retail strategy before I start to hope again.

  2. It looks like that the series only gets to Japan's manga hype and that's all. I am not quite sure what the sales were for its gunpla kits but it's obvious enough that they cared more about their new target audiences rather than the older ones, not to mention the "BUILD FIGHTERS anime series. Sad, but true.

  3. With the way Bandai keeps abusing P-Bandai, even if Thunderbolt didn't die the way it did I still don't think we would see any new kits. I think Bandai is essentially done with UC, anyway.

    1. Done with UC? lmao did you AI generate this? We just got Doan's Island and Hathaway 1 which both did gangbusters.
