Review: HG 1/144 RX-78-01[N] Gundam Local Type [Gundam The Origin MSD]

I am so glad that Bandai had finally released a Gundam unit in Gundam The Origin / MSD series. I really like all the details of this series. And before we start, I'd like to thank TATSUHOBBY for sending this amazing kit!

As usual, I applied all the decals, just simply because I love them, and it really adds up some great detailing to the kit instead of just straight building it out from the box.

I have top coated this kit with matte finish and eliminated some pegs for this review.

The colors of this kit are great. Though it's just an HG kit, it offers variety of part separation especially on its legs and feet that may help some modders out there to separate some colors when painting the kit. Though it is really disappointing in-spite of its part separation on the leg part, Bandai did not separate the armor on the ankle part just like the ones in older HG kits.

As I always say about these amazing Gundam The Origin MSD kits, it has a wonderful articulation compare to other HGUC / HG kits. Yup, Bandai is stepping up the game as the years go by.

One thing I don't like about this kit is the seam-line on its head. But I know it would be fixed with just some minor putty application and paint job.

Darker colors of the runners have some major nubs, especially on the feet that needs a lot of sanding. But over all, the kit looks nice when finished even without the decals.

Decals are great, this one has one of the most number of decals compare to other kits on its series.

I also like that the shield has peg connectors for beam sabers, same with its right arm so you could switch between shield and beam saber when performing a ground dock position.

PROS
  • Great details
  • Variety of part separation
  • Great panel lining
  • Variety of decals
  • Light weight
  • Durable joints
  • Amazing articulation
CONS
  • Ankle part is attached to leg armor
  • Seam line on head
  • Nub marks on feet and black parts

Here are some poses that I made while playing with the kit. I enjoyed posing it because of its very light but durable joints that lets you pose the kit just almost like a human body.

Here it is balancing with one foot on ground!
