The mission is officially a go.
Netflix has confirmed that the long-awaited live-action Gundam film has begun production in Queensland, Australia, bringing one of the most iconic mecha franchises of all time into a new era.
Directed by Jim Mickle, the film is set to deliver a brand-new story within the Gundam universe, backed by a battle-ready cast led by Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo.
Rather than adapting an existing series, the film introduces an original narrative set during a prolonged war between Earth and its former space colonies.
At the center of the story are two rival mech pilots fighting on opposing sides of the conflict. As alliances begin to shift and a greater threat emerges, they are pulled into a high-stakes race across the stars that could determine the fate of humanity.
With massive battles, grounded human emotion, and a cinematic scale, this project aims to present Gundam in a way fans have never seen before in live action.

Joining Sweeney and Centineo is a strong and diverse ensemble cast that includes:
- Jackson White
- Shioli Kutsuna
- Nonso Anozie
- Michael Mando
- Javon Walton
- Oleksandr Rudynskyi

- Jason Isaacs
The lineup pulls talent from a wide range of major productions, reinforcing the film’s global ambition and large-scale production value.
The film is produced by Legendary Pictures in partnership with Bandai Namco Filmworks, and will be released exclusively on Netflix.
Jim Mickle also serves as producer alongside Linda Moran under their Nightshade banner, with additional producers including Cale Boyter, Ali Mendes, Sydney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, and Enzo Marc. Executive producers include Matthew Jenkins, Makoto Asanuma, and Naohiro Ogata.
