Premium Bandai has expanded its High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) model kit line with the 1/144 scale Zaku II Kai B Type [Unicorn Ver.], a model that honors its essential part in the "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" story. This product commemorates the Zaku II Kai B Type's role in the infamous raid on the Torrington base, bringing a piece of Gundam history to life for both fans and model builders.

The Zaku II Kai B Type, identifiable by its characteristic Fritz Helm and color scheme from its appearance in "Mobile Suit Gundam UC," has been thoroughly designed. The most notable feature of this model kit is the inclusion of a freshly modeled Zaku Bazooka, an iconic weapon that played an important role in the series' portrayed Torrington base attack.

Key Features and Accessories

Zaku II Kai B Type Design: The model accurately captures the unique design features of the Zaku II Kai B Type, including its Fritz Helm, with an emphasis on replicating the aircraft's color as seen in the movie. This attention to detail ensures that the model is a faithful representation of its on-screen counterpart.

Zaku Bazooka: Central to this model kit is the Zaku Bazooka, newly included to commemorate the mobile suit's armed configuration during the pivotal attack scene. This addition enriches the display and play value of the model, offering enthusiasts the chance to recreate one of the most memorable moments from "Mobile Suit Gundam UC".

Variety of Weapons for Dynamic Poses: Beyond the Zaku Bazooka, the kit is equipped with a 90mm machine gun and a Heat Hawk, providing modelers with a plethora of options for posing the model. These additional weapons enhance the model's versatility and appeal, catering to a wide range of preferences for display and customization.

Neo Zeon Markings Stickers: Adding further to the customization options, the kit includes stickers for reproducing Neo Zeon markings. These optional stickers allow for a more personalized and detailed depiction of the Zaku II Kai B Type, giving fans the opportunity to tailor their models to reflect the allegiance and aesthetic of the mobile suit as seen in the series.

The HGUC 1/144 Zaku II Kai B Type [Unicorn Ver.] is a must-have for Gundam model fans, particularly those who are enthralled by the rich lore of "Mobile Suit Gundam UC". Its complex design, unique weapon model, and customization choices make it a great addition to any collection, providing a gratifying build experience while also paying tribute to one of the franchise's most memorable moments.

MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai

The Zaku II Kai is a more sophisticated iteration of second-phase Mobile Suits (MS) that have been improved under the United Maintenance Plan. As the operational efficacy of the original Zaku II dwindled due to the advent of new Federation MS and the production of advanced models by its own faction, considerable enhancements were done by combining knowledge from these more recent models. Following the upgrade plan of the MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 Type, the Zaku II received extensive improvements to its armor design, materials, and general mechanical balance. This revision produced a design that was substantially different from the previous Zaku II F-Type.

The cockpit underwent significant improvement, becoming noticeably more user-friendly to the point where even recruits with only rudimentary training could operate the MS. One of the biggest improvements in mobility was made possible by expanding the apogee motors throughout the MS body and strengthening the backpack thrusters. Due to unaltered fuel capacity, this modification resulted in a halving of the operational time at maximum combat power, despite a 70% increase in total thrust over the F-Type. Its armor was heavily strengthened, and its weaponry were redesigned to make it competitive with the Federation's RGM-79 GM, exhibiting impressive advances in performance.

Two unique helmet options were also available with the Zaku II Kai. While the "B-Type" helmet, also known as the "Fritz Helm," was modeled after the Stahlhelm helmets worn by the German soldiers in World War II, the "A-Type" helmet stuck to the traditional Zaku II series design. The purpose of this design was to make it easier for pilots of faulty units to remove the helmet dome for on-the-job repairs.

This model was first released one month before to the end of the One Year War and was the last model produced by the Zaku lineage during that war. Though it was produced in large quantities, its use was restricted to some Space Fleet units, particularly those made up of cadets and recent recruits. It was a rare but limited phase in the Zaku series' history, seeing little combat and never participating in terrestrial operations.

  1. I'm not a Unicorn series fan. If I was, I'd be quite annoyed since a huge amount of kits are P-Bandai.

But you can't really blame Bandai considering that P-Bandai is profitable, Unicorn is still (surprised to be honest) very popular, and by now I'm sure GunPla fans should expect a lot of P-Bandai announcements; many of which would be things you'd want.

It sucks. But save up your money and buy the kits that you really want.
